Semilla Designs is pleased to introduce a new line of footwear made from "molas," the brightly colored blouses of the Kuna women of Panama and Colombia.  A traditional art form that began nearly 200 years ago, the molas are the many-layered cotton fronts and backs of the blouses that Kuna women continue to wear today.  All require many hours of careful hand sewing to make.

The women use a reverse application technique, stitching together several layers of cloth, then cutting away parts of each layer to produce a distinctive multi-colored design. Each layer is then tightly sewn under to create a virtually seamless fabric.

Semilla Designs has arranged for molas to be made into shoes and boots. Working to our specifications, artisans in Bogota, Colombia, are now handcrafting molas into footwear. Each pair is absolutely unique. Take a look at what we have to offer and order your pair of mola shoes or boots today.
